Volupte Burlesque Supper Club – Chancery Lane, London Ohh Matron!

Tottering down Norwich Street towards Volupte, I suddenly got a surge of excitement when I started to see all of the girls outside dolled up in all their  40’s and 50’s clobber.

It was my birthday and my amazing Mum took me along to Volupte for a night of cocktails, food and naughty entertainment.

We kick started our night by propping up the cocktail bar – a few Tiramisu cocktails later (I know, it sounds like an after dinner drink, but frankly, I’ve never done things the right way around) and it was time for dinner.

Our host escorted us to our beautifully laid table right on the main floor where the performances take place. Eagerly anticipating the show, we popped open a bottle of Prosecco (because we weren’t squiffy enough!) and got comfortable. The acts performed right in front of our table, so I strongly advise going in a couple so you get the seats right at the front of the stage. However, be warned – this positioning isn’t for the faint of heart – but if you can take your starter with a side of swinging nipple tassle, then you’re onto a winner.

**WARNING** (If your worst nightmare is performers that interact with their audience, I suggest a bigger group to get the tables that are situated a row behind - but still with a fantastic view)

We started our meal with a tasty asparagus salad while watching a man balance his entire body weight on his chin followed by our mains (accompanied by a sizeable ballerina singing opera…topless.) We both went for red snapper with an olive and feta cheese side. This came with seasonal veggies and sadly it all tasted of butter. I'm sure their chef was just having a buttery off night as i've heard people speak very highly of the food, so this was a real shame. For afters we both went for a chocolate mousse which was beautifully presented and was the perfect accompaniment to watch the mesmerizing headline act flutter her feathers to one of my favourite Clint Mansell songs.

What the main lacked, the cocktails and entertainment made up for. This is a great girly night and seems to be popular with hen parties (make of that what you will). The acts vary from night to night, but I highly recommend the burlesque shows for a bit of cheeky fun. When the performances are over, the stage area opens up to allow everyone to sink another few cocktails and get their dance on. And dance we did....

Good for – Girly get togethers, beautifully crafted cocktails and a bit of nipple tassle action.
Bad for – People of a shy disposition and dates (dependent on what you’re into!)
Cocktails are standard price and the entertainment is well worth a visit.
